One-Stop Works Program

One-Stop Works provides a comprehensive work experience for eligible individuals 21 and under with little or no work history who are seeking to improve on and learn new skills.  Individuals participating in this program learn what it's like to work in an office setting, cooperate with co-workers to accomplish a common goal and many other skills that are transferable to other job settings.  Features of this program include:

  • Structured work environment
  • Informal and formal evaluations
  • Hands-on learning experiences
  • Job Readiness Assistance
  • Job Placement and Retention Services
  • Mentoring
  • Referrals to other resources within the community
  • Letter of recommendation

Skills participants learn through the One-Stop Works program include but are not limited to:

  • Soft skill attainment
  • Microsoft office programs
  • Teamwork skills
  • Creativity
  • Time management/prioritizing tasks
  • Specific office and technical skill attainment
  • Leadership skills
  • Assertiveness skills
  • Accountability
  • Communication skills

The Greater Wheeling Area Youth Outreach, Inc. is committed to empowering young people from lower income families with the opportunities, skills, and vision to achieve long-term dreams and goals.  Have you thought about going to college, but wondered if you had what it takes to academically and financially do it on your own?  Do you attend a School District #214 High School or go to School District #21 Holmes or London Middle School?  Can you legally work in the US?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you are a great candidate for GWAYO, Inc. "Dream Maker's Program".  This is a three day a week high school program/four day a week middle school program that helps you accurately complete your homework and takes you on to college.  Transportation is provided from your school to the program site and back to your home after the program.  There is no cost to students if they are accepted into the program.  Please call and ask to talk to one of our Program Coordinators for more information.  (847) 759-0679 or http://gwayo.org

Township High School District 214 serves disabled and at-risk students by offering a variety of programs and services. All participants are enrolled in academic classes relevant to their individual needs as determined by the Individual Education Planning Team (IEP) or their school counselor and Student Service Team.  Classes are designed to strengthen areas of weakness in the workplace.

The Transitional Vocational Services program emphasizes the need for all participants to exhibit essential and appropriate work behaviors for success. Participants can receive leadership development opportunities through various coordinated activities and functions including peer mentoring, peer counseling, and service over self. Participants who are in need of continued academic/vocational orientation and instruction are referred to a summer component.  The summer program provides career-counseling, job coaching support, remediation of work skills and work experience in the community setting.

All participants receive one year of follow-up support and services, which includes linkage with various community agencies through the Illinois workNet Center and other appropriate agencies.
